Anne Heche reportedly fighting for her life in ‘critical condition’ in a coma after car crash

Actress Anne Heche is reportedly fighting for her life following a fiery car crash last week.

A representative for the 53-year-old star told Page Six Heche is in “critical condition” and shortly after the accident on Friday California time – Saturday Australia time – she fell unconscious and slipped into a coma.

“She has a significant pulmonary injury requiring mechanical ventilation and burns that require surgical intervention,” the source told the publication.

News broke over the weekend that Heche had been involved in a car crash in Los Angeles, and it was reported she had crashed her blue Mini Cooper into the garage of an apartment complex, leaving her with severe burns.

Sources close to Heche said she was intubated at the hospital and had a “long recovery ahead” in the intensive care unit, saying she was “lucky to be alive.” Soon after, it was said Heche had moved to a “stable condition” from critical, until this morning.

It was confirmed overnight by Page Six that the Los Angeles Police Department received a warrant to test Heche’s blood with regards to determining if she was intoxicated at the time of the accident.

Following the crash, fans noted worrying comments Heche made on her podcast Better Together about alcohol in an episode posted hours before her car crash. Watch above.

The episode, in which Heche and her co-host joked about drinking vodka with “wine chasers” after being “rocked” by a “very bad day”, has since been deleted, and a producer for the podcast told ET it was not recorded on the day of Heche’s crash.

“The episode was recorded on the Tuesday before the episode was released, and has been removed due to inaccurate reporting. Any reports that she recorded that episode on the day of the accident are false,” Ryan Tillotson told the publication.

Page Six reports officers at the Los Angeles Police Department believe Heche may have been under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs at the time of the crash, which saw her plow her car into a Los Angeles home, consequently igniting a fire that burned her car and left the actress with severe injuries.

Eyewitnesses alleged the collision and fire at the Los Angeles home happened after Heche crashed into the garage of a nearby apartment complex, but she sped off before she could be helped by residents. Los Angeles Police Department West Traffic Division also confirmed she had hit another vehicle after the garage collision and before colliding into the house caught fire.

“The info we received this morning was a warrant that was obtained the same day as the traffic collision, which was August 5,” a representative for the Los Angeles Police department told Page Six overnight, saying that the warrant was to draw blood and an investigation, pending the blood test results, is ongoing.

“If found intoxicated, [Heche] could be charged with misdemeanour DUI hit and run. No arrests have been made so far.”
