Inside Matty J and Laura Byrne’s lavish and long-awaited wedding

Matty ‘J’ Johnsonand Laura Byrne finally tied the knot yesterday in a beautiful outdoor ceremony on the New South Wales South Coast.

The couple’s wedding comes after five years together, having met on The Bachelor in 2017, where Byrne won Johnson’s affections.

One of the rare successful couples the show produced, they are now proud parents to Marlie-Mae, two, and Lola, one, who served as flower girls at the wedding.

It was a beautiful day for a wedding, with Byrne posting about her luck to her Instagram Story ahead of the ceremony.

“What a day for a wedding,” she captioned over a picture-perfect blue sky and sea.

She also shared a candid picture of her in a face mask, prepping to be transformed into a beautiful bride.

The extravagant affair was held at Cupitt’s Estate in Ulladulla, where Byrne, 37, arrived with her bridal party in a Chrysler stretch limo.

“So it’s like the same type of limo that you’d see on The Bachelor where our love story began. It’s that same vehicle that will drop Laura off along with her bridal party at the venue,” Johnson, 35, told Yahoo Lifestyle.

He also mentioned that Byrne, who is a jewellery designer, made the couple’s wedding bands.

“This time she’s bringing a gift. Obviously, the rings have been made by Laura, she’s made her own wedding band and mine as well.”

Byrne posted a photo of Johnson wearing his ring the morning after their wedding, revealing that the ring also contains diamonds.

“It’s not everyday a man gets to wear diamonds… or is it ?!” she shared.

Johnson had put himself in charge of planning the event, which had been delayed by a year due to the pandemic. His background in event planning came in handy, but he recently admitted that he was feeling the stress.

“It’s probably been the hardest event that I’ve ever had to pull together,” he said ahead of the wedding. “I’m still scrambling. We’re yet to write our vows and haven’t got flowers organised just yet, but that’s on my to-do list. It’s a very last-minute sprint to the finish line.”

But he admitted to one “splurge item” that they had locked in for the special affair.

“The most extravagant thing that we have is a champagne shower, like a pyramid of glasses,” Johnson revealed to 9Honey earlier this week, adding that it was a last minute addition.

The champagne tower wasn’t the only hot-ticket item on the day, with Byrne’s $15,000 custom wedding dress stealing the show.

The bride originally picked the dress off the rack from KYHA Studios boutique at $8,000, before completely changing the style of the skirt. The original had a sleek, form-fitting skirt with a high slit, but Byrne opted for a puffier skirt, closing the original slit and adding tulle underneath for volume.

However, she did keep the sheer panel that showed off her midriff and her tattoos, as well as the off the shoulder detail on one sleeve, as seen in her Instagram post.
