Toni Collette shares poignant poem about courage and change after split from rocker Dave Galafassi

Toni Collette has shared a poignant post in the wake of her divorce from musician Dave Galafassi.

The Aussie actress appears to be in a reflective mood four days after announcing she and the drummer were ending their 19-year marriage, as overnight she shared a poem about courage and change, titled Halfway There.

“Whatever happens, you are free to go,” read the poem written by American poet Kate Baer and posted on Instagram Stories. “Free to peel off what’s left of this story and choose another. It is not too late. It is definitely worth the trouble.”

“Remember the story of the lion lost without his courage,” the poem continued. “Too scared, full of fury, the great wizard standing in the emerald tower, knowing the lion was already brave.”

Collette and Galafassi first announced their divorce in a joint statement shared on the actress’ Instagram page on December 8.

However, hours after it was posted, photos of the rocker kissing another woman on a Sydney beach emerged, forcing Collette to edit the statement and clarify she and her husband had been separated for a “substantial period”.

“After a substantial period of separation, it is with grace and gratitude that we announce we are divorcing,” the edited statement now reads. “We’re united in our decision and part with continuing respect and care for each other.”

“Our kids are of paramount importance to us and we will continue to thrive as a family, albeit a different shape. We’re thankful for the space and love you grant us as we evolve and move through this transition peacefully.”

The pair first met in 2002 at an album launch for Galafassi’s then-band, Gelbison. They were married one year later in a traditional Buddhist ceremony in Berry on the NSW South Coast.
