Paris Hilton’s Mom, Kathy, Reveals the Surprising Way She Was Introduced to Her Grandson

Paris Hilton is a genius when it comes to giving belated Christmas presents. In a March 17 interview with Extra, Paris’s mom, Kathy Hilton, revealed she had no idea she had a grandchild on the way until her daughter placed baby Phoenix in her arms. “I was in shock, I was in complete shock,” she said of meeting her grandson for the first time.

“We didn’t have our Christmas together because she was working out of the country. She said, ‘I have a surprise for you,’ and it was my Christmas present. Then she waited a few minutes and goes, ‘I have one more surprise for you,'” Kathy said. “I thought maybe it’s a puppy, because my husband and I lost my dog.”

The gift was most definitely not a puppy. “She walks in, blanket falls down, and I just go, ‘Who is this? What is this?'” Kathy shared. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Paris explained why she decided to keep the news that she and her husband, Carter Reum, were expecting a baby via surrogate a secret from everyone, including their families.

For Paris, keeping the news that she was becoming a mom a secret was about keeping an important part of her life private – something she hasn’t been able to do in the past. “My life has just been so public, my whole life has been, just, invaded; I felt like, for my baby, I just wanted him to come into the world and just be here,” she said in part.

Paris also had a plan to make it up to her mom for not telling her about Phoenix’s impending arrival. She started by giving her mother a blue Chanel bag before presenting her with her grandson. “I was like, if I give her Chanel first, maybe she won’t be so upset that I didn’t tell her about this,” the DJ said.

She continued, “I was holding the baby on my shoulder with a blanket over him, and then I just sat down. She’s like, ‘What is that?’ And I was like, ‘A baby … meet your grandson.’ She’s like, ‘Is this yours?’ And she starts crying. She’s like, ‘Let me hold him. He’s the most beautiful baby I’ve ever seen in my life. Oh, he’s so beautiful.’ She was just in tears.”

Since then, Kathy has gotten over her shock and she’s loving visiting her grandson. “I just left him three hours ago. He is such a little angel,” she told Extra. “Getting heavy and heavier every few days.”
