A tee-rrific romance! Xander Schauffele’s wife, Maya Lowe Schauffele, has been by his side long before he embarked on his impressive golf career.
The couple began dating in 2014. At the time, the athlete was attending college at San Diego State University while playing for their collegiate golf team. Maya, for her part, was studying public health at the University of California, San Diego, down the road.
“One year with this amazing girl, could not be happier ,” the golfer wrote via Instagram in March 2015 in celebration of his and Lowe’s first milestone.
Three years later, Xander began to play golf professionally with his partner cheering him on during his breakout season. In 2017, he achieved his first PGA Tour victory which led him to earn a spot in the Open Championship. At the end of the season, he was awarded Rookie of the Year in a vote done by his golfing peers.
“Glad to have this one on the bag for the Par 3 contest ,” Xander captioned a picture of him and his then-girlfriend who caddied for him at Augusta’s Par 3 event in April 2018.
While Xander didn’t perform as well as expected in his first Masters appearance, he managed to make a comeback the following year. In April 2019, the budding golf star tied for second place in the prestigious tournament, only to end up one stroke behind golf icon Tiger Woods, who took home the trophy that year.
Things began to get serious for the Presidents Cup winner and Maya in December 2019 and the pair expanded their family with their dog Chewie.
“Meet the newest addition to our family Happy Holidays everyone!,” Xander captioned a photo of him and Maya posing with their pup by the Christmas tree. They eventually added a second fur baby to their brood, Momo, who made their Instagram debut two years later.
The twosome have since often shown off their furry friends on their respective social media pages and even had them involved in their July 2021 wedding ceremony.
“My best friend, my wife ,” Xander wrote alongside a photo of him and his wife with their dogs dressed up in wedding attire as well.
Following his nuptials, the gold medalist traveled across the pond to participate in the Scottish Open and opened up about his first trip as a married man.
“No offense to anyone here but I would not choose a place that rains so much to take my honeymoon,” he joked during the pre-tournament press conference at the time. “It’s been a long time coming. … We’ve been together for quite some time and decided to make it public. We’re very happy.”
