Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn Reportedly Broke Up Due to “Differences in Their Personalities”

Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn have reportedly called it quits. On April 10, a source told People that the breakup was due to “differences in their personalities.” Swift and Alwyn have “had rough patches before and always worked things out, so friends thought they would take some time apart but eventually come back together,” the source said, but “ultimately” they “weren’t the right fit for one another.”

Apparently, timing also had something to do with it. “They had plenty in common and fell in love in a safe bubble while she was retreating from the world during ‘Reputation,'” the source said. “Then the pandemic hit, and they were locked down together and able to continue growing their relationship in this insulated way. But he didn’t really ‘know’ her yet outside of that bubble.”

Entertainment Tonight broke the news about Swift and Alwyn’s split on April 8, revealing that a source told them Swift and Alwyn ended their relationship “a few weeks ago.” People later confirmed the breakup.

Entertainment Tonight’s source added that the breakup “was not dramatic” and “the relationship had just run its course,” noting that their separation is “why [Alwyn] hasn’t been spotted at any shows” on Swift’s Eras Tour. Reps for Alwyn did not immediately respond to POPSUGAR’s request for comment. POPSUGAR was unable to reach reps for Swift.

Swift’s highly anticipated Eras Tour kicked off on March 17 and runs through Aug. 9, though the star has promised international stops to come. The star released her 10th album, “Midnights,” in October 2022.

Swift and Alwyn began dating in 2016 after reportedly meeting at the Met Gala that year. The pair kept their relationship fairly quiet over the years, though they occasionally commented on their romance. Alwyn also helped Swift write some of her songs on her albums “Folklore,” “Evermore,” and “Midnights” under the pseudonym William Bowery.
