Kelly Clarkson is back and better than ever with her new album Chemistry.
After her messy split from ex-husband Brandon Blackstock, the album is of course, as Adele would say, all about, “divorce, babe, divorce”.
The Since U Been Gone singer has frequently spoken about her difficult divorce and how it inspired her latest record.
Earlier this month, Clarkson changed the lyrics to her hit song Piece by Piece to seemingly shade her ex.
The pop star performed her 2015 track on The Kelly Clarkson Show, beginning by telling the audience: “This song I initially wrote, just, super hopeful, right? And well, sometimes hopeful turns into hopeless. So here we go, ‘Piece by Piece.'”
The original lyrics in the song are “But piece by piece / he collected me up / Off the ground, where you abandoned things, yeah / Piece by piece, he filled the holes that you burned in me / At six years old and you know.”
This was changed to ”Piece by piece, I collected me up / Off the ground where you abandoned things, yeah / And piece by piece, I filled the holes that you burned in me / At 6 years old.”
After changing the lyrics from ‘he’ to ‘I’, Clarkson is taking back the meaning of the song and showing she’s truly ready to ‘breakaway’ from her ex.
But before she married – and then divorced – Blacks, Clarkson has dated a few people in the industry that you might not know about.
Here’s the singer’s complete dating history, including her rumoured beaus.
Back in the early 2000s, fans were convinced Clarkson was dating American Idol runner up, Justin Guarini.
The Breakaway singer first met Guarini on the show back in 2002.
After the success of American Idol, they went on to star in the film From Justin to Kelly together the following year.
The pair sparked dating rumours throughout the first season of the singing competition, and it turns out fans weren’t that far off the mark.
Over a decade later, Clarkson admitted to Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live in 2015 that the on-screen rivals had a fling behind the scenes.
“We didn’t date during “Idol,” which, everybody thought, but we did date during … I feel like we weren’t dating during [From Justin to Kelly] but I feel like maybe we did,” Clarkson revealed.
“We did date a little bit. I think any two people who are thrown together that much would,” she added.
In January, Guarini appeared as a guest on Clarkson’s popular daytime show, The Kelly Clarkson Show.
While on the couch, the pair reminisced about their time bonding on American Idol.
“We got to hang out so much,” Guarini shared.
“If you ever have the chance to see Kelly and she says, ‘Hey, do you want to play a card game?’ Don’t,” he joked.
“We would hang out and we would play speed because there were huge swaths of time, and I think I may have won twice in the hundreds of time that we played together.”

Speaking to HELLO! in June, Guarini opened up about his lasting friendship with Clarkson, going on over two decades.
“I will always be one of her biggest fans,” he told the publication.
“I was there from the beginning, and I got to watch her grow into an absolute global presence. Everything that she is doing and has done, she deserves, and has worked very hard for,” he said.”
Earlier this month, Clarkson spoke to iHeart Radio and confirmed that the pair had dated “for a few months”
Clarkson had a brief relationship with fellow musician Graham Colton in 2005 when she was 23 and he was 24.
Colton’s band, The Graham Colton Band, opened for the Stronger singer for her Breakaway and Hazel Eyes Tours.
They didn’t go the distance thought after calling it quits just six months after they began seeing each other.
“He was in the studio, and we didn’t even see each other. We were both like, ‘This doesn’t make sense,'” Clarkson told US Weekly in 2006 that being on tour was the reason for their split.
Clarkson seemed to have very briefly dated Ryan Key for just a few months in 2006.
Key is best known for being the lead singer of Yellowcard.
Clarkson first met her former husband in 2006 at the Academy of Country Music Awards rehearsal.
The pair began dating officially in February 2012. By the end of the year they were engaged and in October 2013 had tied the knot.
Their whirlwind romance continued as Clarkson announced in January 2014 that the couple were expecting a baby girl together.

In April 2016, the couple welcomed their second child together, son Remington Alexander, completing their family of four, including their first daughter River Rose.
However, after seven years of marriage, Clarkson filed for divorce from Blackstock in 2020, citing ‘irreconcilable differences’.
The divorce proceedings seemed to get messy after the court documents revealed “the level of conflict between the parents [had] increased” as of November 2020 when Clarkson was granted primary custody of their two children.
In August 2021, Clarkson was declared legally single after a judge signed off on her request.
The divorce was officially finalised in March 2022, with Clarkson being ordered to pay Blackstock $1.3 million and monthly child support payments.
Not long after, Clarkson revealed that her upcoming album would delve into her divorce and life after her relationship.
The Since U Been Gone recently revealed that she actually warned her ex about the album so he wasn’t caught off-guard.
“We did have a little text exchange about it,” Clarkson shared during an interview with TODAY last month.
“I don’t even remember why or how it happened, but I was like, ‘Hey, I didn’t just diminish us down to one [thing],'” she said. “You know what I’m saying? It’s all in there, the ride. The beauty is in there, as well. Now there’s a lot of pain, but that’s what happens for all of us.”
With her divorce finalised, Clarkson is now officially enjoying single life and spending her time hosting her very own television talk show.
Since being launched on the first season of American Idol, Clarkson has found success after success, with a few relationships along the way.
Let’s take a look at who the songstress has dated, including another American Idol contestant.
Rumours have been swirling for a couple of years that Clarkson is now dating country musician Brett Eldredge.
The pair performed Under the Mistletoe together in 2020 on the NBC show The Voice and let’s just say, the chemistry was so good that the duo had people convinced they were an item in real life.
Eldredge spoke to HELLO! US in March this year about being asked by Clarkson to perform with her for the show’s finale episode.
“I couldn’t believe I got to sing with her. The fact that [she] reached out was so cool.”
In the interview, Eldredge also opened up about being “in awe” of Clarkson and her voice after she had won American Idol and went on tour.
When asked about the dating rumours following their performance, Eldredge called them “crazy”.
“Yeah, those always come. It’s crazy but it’s just people I love to make music with,” he said.
Kelly is happy being single
All the single ladies!
Kelly Clarkson is in her single era and loving it.
Speaking on the Angie Martinez IRL Podcast in March, Clarkson put any dating rumours to rest and confirmed that she was indeed single.
“I don’t want another dude in my house with my children,” she said, sharing that she doesn’t want to get married again.
“I really do, truly love being single. I like my bed. I like my routine.”
While Clarkson doesn’t want to take another trip down the aisle, the singer did say that she would “love to fall in love” again.
