Game of Thrones star Ian Gelder dies aged 74 after battle with cancer

Actor Ian Gelder, best known for Game of Thrones, has died, his husband has revealed. He was 74.

Ben Daniels, actor and Gelder’s husband wrote on social media:”It is with huge huge sadness and a heavy heart broken into a million pieces that I’m leaving this post to announce the passing of my darling husband and life partner Ian Gelder.”

“Ian was diagnosed with bile duct cancer in December and yesterday he passed at 1.07pm.”

Daniels continued in his emotional Instagram tribute, revealing he had been his husband’s carer during his last days on earth.

“I’d stopped all work to be his carer but neither of us had any idea that it would all be so fast,” Daniels said.

“He was my absolute rock and we’d been partners for more than 30 years.”

He addeed: “If we weren’t together we spoke to each other everyday. He was the kindest, most generous spirited and loving human being. He was a wonderful wonderful actor and everyone who worked with him was touched by his heart and light.”

Gelder’s representative DMJ Consultancy posted on social media, asking for the family’s privacy.

“I am heartbroken by the news that the wonderful Ian Gelder has passed away. Ian was one of the loveliest men you could ever wish to meet,” they wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

“Ian’s husband, family and loved ones are in my thoughts. Now is a time of immense pain and grief, and we ask for their privacy to be respected at this time.”

Gelder was best known for his role as Kevan Lannister on Game of Thrones. He also appeared in the series Doctor Who.
