Writing for The Guardian in 2022, Charles recalled the first time she was recognised as the Queen from someone aside her agent.
“On a trip to Greenwich when I was 11 or 12, a photographer asked if he could use me in some shots, saying, “She looks like Princess Elizabeth”,” he star wrote.
“Later, I’d draw crowds, especially abroad, and sometimes had to run away.”
Charles said her “looks counted against” her early on in her career while starring in amateur productions. Then she decided to capitalise on her appearance.
“I don’t think anyone else had earned a living by resembling someone famous before – now there’s a whole industry,” she wrote.
