Oprah Winfrey has shared a health update after it was widely reported she was ”hospitalised” with the stomach flu.
Winfrey, 70, spoke to her close friend Gayle King in a Zoom call, which was shared on King’s Instagram, in which she said she simply went to the emergency room as she was dehydrated while overcoming the condition.
“It was actually the emergency room… I couldn’t keep enough water down to keep hydrated and I went to the emergency room for that, and that’s just it,” Winfrey said.

“I’m not [100 per cent]… I will say, keep your hands washed… Doctors told me [germs] it lives on railings and door knobs for 10 hours…”
King said her comments about Winfrey were taken out of context, when she said on CBS Mornings that Oprah went to hospital due to the stomach flu.
“The point I was trying to make, America, is that it would have to be something that would keep her from getting on a plane and coming,” King said about her scheduled TV appearance.
“I was too weak to get on the plane,” Oprah said.

She added that after her health scare made headlines, a lot of her friends heard the news and called her right away.
“I thought what you were trying to do is trying to explain why I wasn’t there and doing that interview… everyone I ever known that has access to my email, called me to ask if I’m alright!”

“She had some kind of stomach thing – stomach flu – stuff was coming out of both ends. I won’t get too graphic,” King previously said on CBS Mornings.
“Needless to say, she ended up in the hospital, dehydration, had to get an IV, so it was a very serious thing,” she added.
“She will be OK and I hope she’s not mad at me for sharing that detail.”
A spokesperson told Page Six Winfrey “is recovering following a stomach flu and received an IV due to dehydration at the recommendation of her doctor”.
“She is resting and feeling better every day.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, stomach flu symptoms include diarrhea, cramps and vomiting.
Winfrey was set to introduce an author whose work is being featured in her book club.
She also told a fan on a recent Instagram post who said she looked great in a photo: “That pic was 2 weeks ago. You wouldn’t want to see me today recovering from stomach virus [sick emojis].”
