America’s biggest music stars help kick off Los Angeles 2028 in Closing Ceremony handover

The Olympics Closing Ceremony has officially taken us from Paris to Los Angeles.

Some of America’s biggest acts came together to kick off the 2028 LA Olympics era with a slew of memorable performances.

The segment kicked off with Tom Cruise pulling off the mission impossible of transporting the Olympic flag all the way to the States.

The Hollywood star flew into the stadium and rode off on a bike while Grammy Award-winning singer H.E.R performed the US national anthem onstage in Paris.

After Cruise skydived his way to the iconic Hollywood sign in LA, the handover kicked off with some musical performances from America’s biggest and best on Venice Beach.

Snoop Dogg takes to the stage in LA

The beach was set up with the official LA ’28 sign in the background, which featured the American flag cleverly forming the letter A. 

Rock band the Red Hot Chili Peppers belted out their iconic 2002 track Can’t Stop as the perfect transition to transport fans around the world to the US music scene.

Frontman Anthony Kiedis gave a memorable performance of the track beachside before 22-year-old singing sensation Billie Eilish took over from the group.

Eilish, who is set to tour in Australia next February, performed in a polo shirt adorned with the American flag on one sleeve and the country’s colours in diagonal stripes.

The superstar performed her wildly popular new track Birds of a Feather with her brother and music producer Finneas on stage behind her.

Then it was Snoop Dogg’s turn.

The rapper, who has been a surprising standout at Paris 2024, kicked off his set with his iconic anthem Drop It Like It’s Hot.

The star rocked a stylish tracksuit in the American red, white and blue colour scheme with the Olympic rings printed on his top and pants.

Snoop then had an extra special surprise for fans when he brought out music star Dr Dre to perform with him on Venice Beach. 

Dr Dre joined the rapper in LA to close out the handover performance with their 1999 track The Next Episode.
