“It’s a special and timely opportunity for me to step back on stage for the first time after my sporting career.”
Simpson previously performed the national anthem at the 2022 AFLW grand final, however this will be his first major performance with around 100,000 people in attendance and millions tuning in from home.
“As an Australian, it’s one of the greatest honours,” he continued.
“And I hope I can deliver something that everyone can sing along to and share in the pride of being a member of this beautiful country.”
Back in 2019, Simpson decided to leave his singing career behind and chase his Olympic dreams, deciding to pursue swimming professionally – a childhood dream he had been working toward before kicking off his career in music.

He represented Australia in the 2022 Commonwealth Games, however suffered a devastating loss when he didn’t qualify for Paris 2024, ultimately deciding to hang up his swimming cap.
Now, it seems Simpson is making his way back in to the spotlight with his first major gig since his foray into swimming.
The Golden Thing singer will be performing at the grand final held on September 28 at the MCG, alongside pop super star Katy Perry.
