‘Not what I signed up for’: Rising superstar Chappell Roan warns she may quit

Pop sensation Chappell Roan, 26, became one of the most talked-about names this year.

After working in music for a decade, Roan’s latest album brought her to the A-league with hits like Hot To Go! and saw her reportedly break the Lollapalooza festival attendance record.

But in a new interview, the rising star has revealed she is prepared to walk away from it all if fame gets too dangerous.

“I told myself, if this ever gets dangerous, I might quit,” Roan told The Face.

“It’s dangerous now, and I’m still going. But that part is not what I signed up for.”

The Pink Pony Club singer detailed a recent fan interaction at the airport where she was yelled at by a man after declining to sign autographs.

“I feel like fame is just abusive,” Roan admitted. “The vibe of this – stalking, talking s–t online, [people who] won’t leave you alone, yelling at you in public – is the vibe of an abusive ex-husband.”

“That’s what it feels like. I didn’t know it would feel this bad.”

Roan has been outspoken about the issue since she was catapulted into the spotlight.

On August 24 the Good Luck, Babe! singer posted a statement to her 4.7 million Instagram followers to “set boundaries” after some concerning fan behaviour.

The star made it a point to distinguish the difference between when she’s working or performing on stage and when she’s in public living her life.

“I don’t agree with the notion that I owe a mutual exchange of energy, time or attention to people I do not know, do not trust, or who creep me out — just because they’re expressing admiration,” she said.

“Please do not assume you know a lot about someone’s life, personality and boundaries because you are familiar with them or their work online.”

Roan recently performed her hit song Good Luck, Babe! at the MTV VMAs and was awarded the Best New Artist.
