Kyle and Jackie O staffer gives ‘long overdue’ apology for stealing star’s Logie

Two years after a Kyle and Jackie O staffer found himself in hot water at the 2023 Logies, he has given a “long overdue” apology.

During last night’s red carpet, Pete Deppeler, known as Intern Pete on the hit radio show, called out to actress and comedian Kitty Flanagan in an attempt to bury the hachet.

“We might as well have it out,” Deppeler began nervously as Flanagan appeared confused.

Deppeler continued apologetically.

“I’m really sorry, I didn’t mean to. I got banned from the Logies for life, I’m not allowed in anymore,” he explained.

As Flanagan began to walk off to end the exchange, Deppeler quipped one last time, “Sorry again anyway, my bad, my bad.”

A clip of the exchange was posted to the Stories section of the Kyle and Jackie O show’s official Instagram page.

“A looong overdue apology,” the caption read.

The clip posted to Instagram was cut short, leaving out moments from Deppeler and Flanagan’s exchange.

Deppeler reflected on the moment on-air with Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson this morning, explaining he finally apologised for stealing Flanagan’s Logie two years ago.

During the radio segment, a longer clip of the apology was played, in which Flanagan explained actress and comedian Julia Zemiro was the one who needs an apology.

All of this started when Intern Pete pinched Flanagan’s Logie from Zemiro’s safe-keeping at the 2023 Logies after party.

Sandilands and Henderson first spoke about the moment on air weeks after it happened.

“Jackie forgot she was sitting on a secret, but she’s accidentally slipped it out,” Sandilands said on the show, per Media Week.

Flanagan had won a Logie at the ceremony but due to her absence, Zemiro collected it on her behalf.

“Julia Zemiro picked up the Logie on the night, she took the award on her behalf and then it vanished,” Henderson added.

“Even at the after party, Julia was there protecting the Logie – but the Logie was apparently left by a couch when she went to the dance floor.”

Sandilands recalled that the music at the after party stopped and someone called out, stressing that “someone has stolen a Logie” in a terse moment.

Eventually Sandilands revealed, “Intern Pete had the Logie under his jacket”.

Deppeler has explained he was banned from the Logies awards show after the incident.

This year, however, he returned to the event but only as part of the media pack on the red carpet.

It is understood he was not present in the ceremony or at the after party.
