Aussie music icon and The Delltones frontman Danny Mayers dies at 77 following health battle as tributes flow

The Australian music industry is mourning the loss of one of its own.

Danny Mayers, a star and frontman of iconic Aussie band The Delltones, has died following a “courageous battle with a rare kidney disease”. He was 77.

The band made the announcement and paid tribute to the late star in a lengthy Facebook post, saying they “will remember him with deep fondness”.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the sad news of Danny Mayers’ passing last night, following his courageous battle with a rare kidney disease,” they wrote in the post from their band’s Facebook account on October 30.

“Our deepest sympathy and love are with [believed to be his partner] Christina, his family, and all those who were touched by him.”

They praised his talents, writing: “Danny’s unique spirit and extraordinary voice left an indelible mark on The Delltones and on everyone fortunate enough to experience his talent and humour.”

They added in part of the post: “Danny, your voice and your humour and sometimes feisty spirit will remain with us always. We will remember you with deep fondness.”

Underneath, fans were shocked by the news and shared their condolences for the late Aussie singer.

“RIP Danny, thanks for the music xx,” one fan commented underneath.

Another added: “RIP Danny, you always performed at the highest level. I had the pleasure and privilege to have seen you and the Delltones 6 or 7 times. Always a great night. Condolences to your family and friends.”

The Delltones formed back in 1958 and are known for songs including Get a Job, Get a Little Dirt on Your Hands and Come a Little Bit Closer.

It also starred the likes of Peewee Wilson and Woody Finlayson.

Mayers is believed to have joined the hit band in the ’80s and soon became its frontman.

He also reportedly worked as a solo artist over the years.

It’s been reported a funeral service will be held in Queensland this week.
