Celebrities such as Michael Douglas and Debbie Turner rose to stardom in Hollywood — only to leave their acting careers in the past.
Douglas earned an Oscar for his role as Gordon Gekko in 1987’s Wall Street. He later went on to star in famous films like Fatal Attraction (1987), Basic Instinct (1992), Romancing the Stone (1984) and Behind the Candelabra (2013). However, in 2025, the actor said he had “no real intentions” of continuing his Hollywood career unless a script really captured his attention.
Turner, for her part, gained global recognition as Marta von Trapp in The Sound of Music when she was 7 years old. However, this was the only major acting role of her career, as she ultimately left Hollywood after struggling to land other gigs. Turner married husband Richard Larson in 1980, and the pair welcomed four daughters.
