Justin Bieber is opening up about his mental health.
The 28-year-old ‘Purpose’ singer says he suffered “a little bit of an emotional breakdown” after he wed 25-year-old model Hailey Bieber – née Baldwin – in 2018, when he realised tying the knot was not going to “fix” his problems.
“It’s a journey,” Bieber told Apple Music’s Ebro Darden in a clip obtained by People. “I remember when I first got married, I hit a little bit of an emotional breakdown because I thought marriage was going to fix all my problems and it didn’t.”

Bieber said he reflected and realised he was being “a bit of a hypocrite” towards his bride.
“You want your wife to do something that you’re not doing and it’s like, it’s hard sometimes to look in the mirror and really have to realise, man, maybe you’re not the person that you necessarily thought that you were,” Bieber said, though did not elaborate on what, exactly, he wanted Hailey to do that he himself was not doing.
“And that’s just a result of trauma and life circumstances,” he said.

The Biebers were first linked romantically in 2016 before breaking up, but after two years apart, they reunited in 2018 and married at a New York City courthouse later that same year.
In 2019, they had a larger second ceremony with friends and family in Bluffton, South Carolina.
The duo have been open about their trials and tribulations, including Hailey’s recent mini-stroke and surgery to close the 13-millimetre hole in her heart.

In 2021, Bieber opened up about his first year of marriage to GQ, saying it was “really tough.”
“There was a lot going back to the trauma. There was just a lack of trust,” he said.
Hailey herself opened up to Elle about getting married “insanely young” at the age of 21, and said they had things to work through.
“I learn new things about him and about myself and about our relationship all the time,” she said.
“[We] have little fights and stuff that we have to work through sometimes it really doesn’t ever feel like work, because I love him so much. I see forever with him.”
