Adele reveals she needed ‘five therapy sessions a day’ amid divorce from Simon Konecki

Adele surprised concert-goers over the weekend when she made a candid confession about the aftermath of her divorce from her ex-husband, Simon Konecki.

During her latest Weekends with Adele Las Vegas residency show at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, the British singer admitted she needed five therapy sessions per day to help her heal from her marriage breakdown in 2019.

The 34-year-old has since moved on with American sports agent Rich Paul, with her new album, 30, providing a cathartic outlet to express her emotions post-split. But recently Adele said she felt the need to begin therapy sessions again to keep herself “accountable”.

“I started having therapy again because I went a few years without it. I needed to start,” she told the crowd. “Before, obviously, when I was going through my divorce I was basically having, like, five therapy sessions a day.

“But I stopped holding myself accountable for my own behaviour and the things I would say and it’s because I would always fall back on my therapist,” he explained to her fans.

“But now I am doing it because I just want to make sure I’m topping myself up every week to make sure I can give you everything.”

Adele went further and discussed her most recent therapy session, in which she opened up to her therapist about why performing “terrifies” her.

“My whole therapy session this week was really interesting. It was about these shows,” she shared. “I always get so emotional. I love making music, but there is something about performing live that actually terrifies me and fills me with dread.

“That is why I am not a big touring artist. I did it last time to prove I could do it. But this experience of being in a room this size, I think I might be a live artist for the rest of my life.”

Adele and Konecki split in 2019 after eight years together, two of which they were married. The exes now co-parent their son Angelo, now 10.

“Adele and her partner have separated,” the singer’s rep confirmed in a statement at the time of their split in April 2019. “They are committed to raising their son together lovingly. As always they ask for privacy. There will be no further comment.”
