‘Very serious’: Oprah Winfrey rushed to hospital with stomach flu

Oprah Winfrey has been hospitalised, her close friend Gayle King has confirmed.

King told CBS Mornings of the health scare after Winfrey, 70, missed a scheduled TV appearance.

“She had some kind of stomach thing – stomach flu – stuff was coming out of both ends. I won’t get too graphic,” King said on CBS Mornings.

“Needless to say, she ended up in the hospital, dehydration, had to get an IV, so it was a very serious thing,” she added.

“She will be OK and I hope she’s not mad at me for sharing that detail.”

A spokesperson told Page Six Winfrey “is recovering following a stomach flu and received an IV due to dehydration at the recommendation of her doctor”.

“She is resting and feeling better every day.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, stomach flu symptoms include diarrhea, cramps and vomiting.

Winfrey was set to introduce an author whose work is being featured in her book club.

Under a recent post of her holding the author’s work, Winfrey wrote to a follower and said she’s still recovering.

“You look incredible, Oprah!”

Winfrey replied: “That pic was 2 weeks ago. You wouldn’t want to see me today recovering from stomach virus [sick emojis].”

It comes after it was revealed the TV icon was leaving WeightWatchers’ board of directors.

Winfrey recently admitted she uses weight loss medication to keep on track of her health, after experiencing years of body-shaming in the spotlight.

Winfrey, 70, fired back at critics in a new interview with People and said, “I’m absolutely done with the shaming from other people and particularly myself.”

“The fact that there’s a medically-approved prescription for managing weight and staying healthier, in my lifetime, feels like relief, like redemption, like a gift, and not something to hide behind and once again be ridiculed for.”
