‘His boots are impossible to fill’: Glen Powell’s heartfelt tribute to late Twister star Bill Paxton

Amid celebration around the release of his new movie Twisters, leading man Glen Powell took a moment to honour an acting “legend” who came before him.

The Hit Man star posted a picture of himself alongside late actor Bill Paxton – who starred in the 1996 film Twister – on X (formerly Twitter) over the weekend.

“As we release Twisters into the world today, I just wanted to look up and tip my hat to the legend that is Bill Paxton,” Powell wrote in the caption.

“A great friend of mine who saw poetry in the natural world,” the 35-year-old actor’s message continued. “His boots are impossible to fill, but this life is all about chasing the greats.”

Powell and Paxton costarred in the 2013 film Red Wing, which also featured the late Luke Perry.

Paxton died in 2017 from complications during surgery. He was 61.

He was known for his lead role in Twister, opposite Helen Hunt, along with turns in the James Cameron-directed films Titanic and Aliens.

Hunt, meanwhile, has kept quiet about the sequel, though she did say in 2021 that she herself tried to get one made.

Hunt told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live that her pitch, made in June 2020 with Hamilton star Daveed Diggs co-writing the script, would have seen the sequel centred on “all Black and Brown storm-chasers”.

“They wouldn’t do it,” Hunt, who wanted to direct the proposed film, told Cohen at the time. “It would have been so cool.”

Powell also highlighted a fun appearance with his Twisters co-stars Daisy Edgar-Jones and Anthony Ramos – another Hamilton alum – on Friday night (Saturday in Australia).

They joined Luke Combs on stage at his performance at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey to “shotgun” a few beers.
