Christina Aguilera rose up the charts and became an international success in the late ’90s when she released hit tracks including What a Girl Wants and Genie in a Bottle.
It was also around that time when Aguilera – and some of her industry peers – started to experience body-shaming.
In a new and candid chat with Glamour, Aguilera, 43, recalled being body-shamed in the early days of her career.

“When you’re a teenager, you have a very different body than when you’re in your 20s,” Aguilera said.
“I started to fill out, and then that was unacceptable because it was like, ‘Oh, she’s getting thicker.'”
Aguilera said that now as she’s gotten older, she couldn’t care less what people think of her anymore, saying she doesn’t “give a f–k”.

“Other people’s opinions of me are not my business,” she said.
In 2002, Aguilera dropped her squeaky clean image for a bit of a rebrand when she entered her Dirrty era.
Aguilera, now 43, is a mum and is a co-founder of a sexual wellness business.

Her last studio album was 2022’s Aguilera, a Spanish language album in a nod to her heritage.
The singer recently marked 25 years since the release of Genie in a Bottle and marked the occasion in an Instagram post shared with her millions of followers.
“This song not only changed my life, but also impacted and connected me with countless others around the world,” Aguilera said.
“None of this would be possible without the love of my incredible fans. I am forever grateful for you all and the passion you’ve shown me and my music throughout my career.
“Today, I not only celebrate this song, but I celebrate YOU, my fans. Thank you!!!!”
