Grey’s Anatomy star reveals the ‘incredibly sad’ scene he still can’t rewatch nearly 20 years later

A Grey’s Anatomy star has revealed the one scene from the long-running medical drama he still can’t bring himself to rewatch, nearly 20 years later.

Season two introduced fans to the charismatic patient Denny Duquette, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who becomes love interest for Katherine Heigl‘s Izzie Stevens.

But in the season finale, the show delivered a devastating blow when Denny died.

It turns out the episode isn’t just a hard watch for fans.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Morgan admitted he still “can’t rewatch” the episode his character dies, which first aired in 2006.

“It makes me cry. 1) because it was so awesome, and 2) it was f—-ng incredibly sad to watch,” he explained to the media outlet.

“I don’t see myself in there, which I take is a good sign if I can watch myself acting and not see myself. And I never did, working with Heigl and having Shonda’s words.

“That’s pretty special,” he added.

Morgan reunited virtually with Heigl to mark the 20th anniversary of the show, where they reminisced about their scenes together.

The episode shows Heigl’s Izzie break down when she discovers Denny’s death.

Recalling the scene, Heigl said she remembered “how stressed out I was to perform that and just wanting to give it my absolute best and really try not to chew the scenery and try not to make it overly melodramatic, but to really hit that grief honestly.”

“I put all this pressure on myself to do that well. I was sitting alone a lot listening to really sad music, thinking about my dead brother, which was fun.”

Morgan said he had “so much empathy” for Heigl.

The actor reprised his character in seasons three and five.
