When asked if the comparisons affected him, Imran said, “Not significantly. I guess more than anything, it has got to do with my internal processes. I’ve always had a sense of myself just being on the backfoot.”

The actor shared how his shy personality and reserved attitude made him stay on the backfoot. He shared, “I don’t have a very outgoing persona. I am a bit more reserved, I am a bit more shy. And within that there is self-effacement to how I engage with the world. I thought ‘I don’t think I’m that great an actor. I am just a guy who is trying. I don’t see myself as a highly accomplished person. I would instinctively look at other actors.”

He also opened up about Ranbir Kapoor’s talent as an actor. He said, “Ranbir is a fine actor. Anyone else who was my peer and contemporary at that time, I had a sense of not being able to measure up in any way. I didn’t think I was as good a dancer as someone, I didn’t think I was as muscular as someone. Somewhere in my head, I was always playing catch up.”

Imran Khan made his debut as an actor in the 2008 romantic comedy Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na. It was directed by Abbas Tyrewala. He had previously appeared as a child actor in his uncle Aamir Khan’s films, including Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander.
