Legendary Dragon guitarist Robert Taylor has died at the age of 74.
His bandmate Kerry Jacobson, 71, shared the sad news in a moving post and tribute to Taylor online.
In his post, Jacobson said the Kiwi rocker’s death was “unexpected and devastating”.

“I’m writing to share the unexpected and devastating news of the passing of my mentor, my partner in crime for some of the best times, my musical comrade through the hardest of times and my dear friend of decades… the irreplacable Robert Taylor,” he wrote.
“Many admired his songwriting and his musical talent and, after all these years people would still speak to me with great reverence of his talent and contribution to Australian music.”
He went on to speak about their friendship and said they still kept in touch.
“I admired his loyalty, I treasured his mateship, I valued his consistency and I absolutely loved it when often the phone would ring and he was up for a chat,” he wrote.

He added in his tribute that the rocker “was just one of the good ones”.
“That’s what has stuck in my head today. ‘He was one of the good ones,’ and I think that sums it up.”
He added condolences to Taylor’s family, writing: “I will miss him terribly. My love and condolences to Carol, Lesley and Alex 💕.”

Fans and followers flooded the post with comments, with one praising the late star’s music ability.
“So saddened by this news Kerry… sorry to learn of the passing of your friend and bandmate,” one wrote.
“I never knew Robert but his playing was so distinctive I always knew it was his hands on the guitar in every song. Vale Robert 🔥.”
The band were known for hit songs including 1977’s April Sun In Cuba and 1978’s Are You Old Enough?
The band hailed from New Zealand and formed in the early ’70s.
Vocalist Marc Hunter died in 1998 aged 44 following a battle with throat cancer.
