Natalie Tippett, who allegedly had an affair with Lily Allen’s ex-husband David Harbour, has hit back at Lily Allen for stoking a “false narrative”.
Allen’s latest album West End Girl alludes to a woman Harbour had a relationship with, violating the terms of the couple’s open relationship.
It was widely reported that Tippett, a costume designer, was the woman involved in the affair but she has now taken to social media to refute the claims, alluding to the Smile singer and the rumour-mill that has risen in the wake of her new album.
“I was hoping to not speak on this, but I am tired of this false narrative being pushed and circulated,” she began a statement shared to her Instagram.
“This was such a marginal part of my life, but it’s now turned into a major disruption.”
She did not directly name Allen but alluded to the singer and her album throughout the statement.
Tippett then proceeded to shut down speculation that she had an affair with Harbour for several years.
“I did not have a three-year affair with anyone,” she wrote.

”I’m unsure why this person wants so badly to pit people against me or create this narrative that we both know is false based on the actual messages that I have saved between us. The same ones that have now been referenced in a song without my consent.”
Allen appears to reference Tippett in her album as ‘Madeline’ and refers to text messages that the two women shared.
“I know none of this is your fault, messaging you feels kind of assaultive/ Saw your text, that’s how I found out, tell me the truth and his motives,” Allen sings in the song Madeline.
“How long has it been going on? Is it just sex or is there emotion?/ He told me it would stay in hotel rooms, never be out in the open/ Why would I trust anything that comes out of his mouth?,” the lyrics continue.
Tippett spoke with the Daily Mail earlier this year and revealed that she had “of course” heard the song.
“But I have a family and things to protect. I have a two-and-a-half-year-old daughter and I understand this is going on,” she said, adding, “It’s a little bit scary for me”.
When asked by the publication if she knew her private text messages were being used in the lyrics of Allen’s songs, Tippett replied, “Yeah”, adding that she didn’t feel “comfortable talking about it at the moment”.
In her new statement, Tippett claims that she was “misquoted” in the interview.

“I feel extremely violated, and I would love to stop getting messages telling me to die and other obscene things that I won’t share on this platform,” she continued.
“I’m not sure why any fixation landed on me, I don’t weaponise women against women for the behaviour of men, especially not in an open relationship.
“I’m wishing her all the success, money, healing and happiness and whatever else he’s seeking through this.”
”I am a single mother with my own struggles, but I am happy and I wouldn’t trade my life for anything,” she continued.
“I’m aware of repercussions speaking out on this may cause, but I can’t imagine anything worse than what’s already been said, as well as having to watch someone profit off of painful lies … so at this point at least I’ve said my truth and on my own terms.
“Please remember before you send more hate my way, I’m a human being not a character someone created.”
