Adam Sandler sports nasty black eye on TV after an embarrassing accident

When Adam Sandler appeared on Good Morning America on Monday to talk about his new film Hustle, there was something more important to address first.

The 55-year-old actor was sporting a nasty black eye, with a bruise and a sore-looking cut on his face. But before anyone started thinking he was out on the streets starting fights, he reassured the hosts there was no violence involved.

When host Michael Strahan asked what happened, Sandler was keen to clear the air. “This is something I have to discuss right?,” he said. “I was in bed, middle of the night – you know how they tuck in your sheets – somebody tucked in the sheets too much.”

He continued: “I had my phone in the middle of the bed. I kick my feet up, untuck [the sheet]. The phone went flying and it hit me in the head.

“I refuse to acknowledge it. I felt blood. I said ‘something’s going on but I got to sleep’. Kept sleeping.”

When the hosts commented that it was the most elaborate black eye story they’d ever heard, he joked about how very uncool the whole situation is.

“There’s nothing cool about this. It looks so cool. When I’m on the streets of New York, I see people going, ‘Oh, OK. He likes to fight, that guy. And I’m like, it was a bed accident,” Sandler said.

Surprisingly, this isn’t the first time Sandler has shown up to an interview with a black eye. In fact, it’s not even the second time.

Back in 2015, he sported another accidental face bruise while on Jimmy Kimmel’s special NBA Finals show, which he said was from playing basketball.

The year before, he sppeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon with a black eye, joking that his 50 First Dates co-star Drew Barrymore’s unborn baby gave it to him.

Sandler is currently promoting his new film Hustle, which is released on Netflix on June 8th. He stars as a basketball scout who discovers an extraordinary player while overseas, and brings him back without his team’s approval.

It also stars Queen Latifah, and LeBron James serves as co-producer with Sandler.
