Aussie rapper Iggy Azalea reveals debilitating health battle with sciatica

Izzy Azalea has revealed she suffers from the debilitating condition sciatica.

The Aussie rapper made her private health battle public over the weekend, just days after she appeared on stage with singer Pitbull for his Can’t Stop Us Now Tour in Raleigh, North Carolina.

“So, I have sciatica. So fun!” the 32-year-old told fans of her condition, which typically causes pain down the back of the thigh and lower leg and can also cause injury to one’s spinal cord.

Fans sent their well wishes and were quick to empathise with the singer, with many saying they too suffer from the same condition.

“I feel your pain! It sucks so bad,” one Twitter user tweeted, while another urged: “Rest up. I had it two years ago it was very bad, could hardly walk. Rest and use hot water bottle and ice pack at separate times.”

Azalea then assured her fans she was doing all she can to manage the pain.

“Yes I’m fine! It’s only bad after shows & I have a sports Dr helping me now so it’s gonna get better soon,” she tweeted.

Despite her condition, Azalea had been counting down the days she would open for Pitbull n his tour. Although she was very aware that she would need to keep her fitness up. 

“I’m glad I’m not the headliner cause babe, I can’t do an hour on stage yet… I gotta get fit again,” she tweeted in June 2021, when the tour was announced. “My lungs can’t take it. Lmao.” 

When asked how many songs she’ll be performing during each show, Azalea added: “35min set so probably 10-12 songs.”

The Sydney-born singer and single mum – she shares two-year-old son Onyx with rapper ex Playboi Carti – always been open about her health battles. In 2018, she revealed that a trip to a retreat helped her deal with her mental health.

“I’ve never really sat down and had an honest conversation with professional people,” Iggy said in a candid interview with Billboard at the time. “It was good to say something to somebody who could give me the tools and information on how to make my life manageable when I’m feeling those things. So it was really useful – I’m glad that I went.”
