Three long years after their engagement, Sarah Hyland finally married radio host and Bachelor in Paradise alum Wells Adams, 38, over the weekend – and it was a day full of touching nods to their family, blood relatives and otherwise.
One such nod was the fact Hyland’s Modern Family co-star Jesse Tyler Ferguson officiated the wedding, something he was “honoured” to do.
“I had the best seat in the house for this stunner of a wedding. What an honour to marry my two dear friends [Sarah Hyland & Wells Adams],” Ferguson, 46, wrote on Instagram this morning alongside a photo of the newlyweds kissing after they exchanged vows. “I couldn’t be happier for you love bugs. I also do Bar Mitzvahs.”

The couple got engaged in Fiji in July 2019 after two years of dating, but had to reschedule their wedding multiple times due to the pandemic.
When they finally were able to tie the knot on Saturday, August 20, it was in style. The bride wore three dresses – her Vera Wang ceremony dress had pockets sewn into it so she could have tissues and cotton buds at the ready in case she cried – and was walked down the aisle by her father to an ‘altar’ that had been laid in the middle of a vineyard in California.
The wedding weekend officially kicked off on the Friday night with an intimate rehearsal dinner in the wine caves at Sunstone Vineyards in California’s Santa Ynez. Per Vogue, the rehearsal dinner party consisted of the bride and groom, their families, and Ferguson – a first-time officiant – and his husband Justin Mikita.
The wedding on Saturday, however, was a star-studded affair. Hyland and Adams’ guest list included Vanessa Hudgens, Nina Dobrev and her snowboarder boyfriend Shaun White, Kayla Ewell, as well as Modern Family alum Sofía Vergara, her son Manolo Gonzalez Vergara, Julie Bowen, Ariel Winter and Nolan Gould.

According to Vogue, Ferguson’s officiating sparked laughter and joyful tears, and he incorporated a handfasting ritual in honour of Hyland’s Irish and Scottish heritage.
Ferguson and Hyland, 31, have been tight-knit on- and off-screen for years, with Hyland telling Vogue: “I’ve known Jesse since I was 18 years old. I remember his first date with his husband Justin. So we’ve been through so much. Jesse and Justin and Wells and I have travelled together, just the four of us. So it was really special to have him up there.”
At the reception after the cake was cut, Hyland changed into a Galia Lahav bias cut silk gown, and the group then travelled to a different venue for an after-party, which is also where Hyland changed into a short Georges Hobeika Couture beaded dress.
The weekend closed with a recovery brunch on the Sunday morning, which had a Bloody Mary and mimosa bar.

By all accounts, the weekend was heartfelt and fun. Adams shared a photo of him at the ‘altar’ on the day wiping his eyes, writing, “This is the moment I saw my wife on our wedding day. I cried a lot. Like A LOT.”
Hyland also poked fun at the length of their engagement, sharing a black-and-white photo of her Vera Wang gown, writing, “A train as long as our engagement 💕”
Vergara also shared a series of photos from the day, as did Dobrev, who said, “What a magical weekend (FINALLY) celebrating [Sarah Hyland & Wells Adams].”
“Your love is to infinity and beyonddddd 🚀🚀🚀❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥,” she continued.
“Pluto ain’t far enough #mrandmrswells also, 🖕🏼 u blisters. i’ll welcome you back anytime, if it’s for an epic dance floor like that 💃🏻🕺🏼.”
