“It really was just like, ‘Oh, it’s done.’ It’s not fulfilling,” Glover, who will voice Simba in the upcoming Mufasa: The Lion King flick, shared. “And I just felt like I didn’t need to build in this way anymore.

“I’m not 25 anymore, standing in front of a boulder like, ‘This has to move,'” he added. “You give what you can, but there’s beauty everywhere in every moment. You don’t have to build it. You don’t have to search for it.”

Now 40 years old, Glover has another five acting jobs, among producing and writing roles, in the works and is parent to three sons with his wife Michelle White, Legend, Drake, and Donald III.

He shared that becoming a parent and losing his father is part of the reason he’s made the decision to leave Childish Gambino in the past and carefully consider where he is focusing his energy.

“Success to me is, honestly, being able to put out a wide-scale album that I would listen to,” he said.

“When I put my son on my shoulders, I feel deep joy. That’s real,” he says.

“No one on their deathbed is going to look back and say, ‘Thank God I avoided being cringe.'”

Bando Stone & The New World is set for release worldwide on July 19.
